Leaders in the Community: Interns Reflect on E.A.R.T.H D.A.Y!
On April 21st, Oakland Tech Interns joined fellow interns and community members for a clean up celebration. Participants split into teams and took to the streets for a litter competition that resulted in over 7,500 pieces of litter collected in a short hour time span. Interns reflected on the day using the letters of E.A.R.T.H D.A.Y. Hear what they had to say about the day!
STUDENT BLOG: Letter Reflection
The first part of making a change is educating others on an issue. We can’t make change unless we all know what we’re fighting for and what our goal is, the Earth Team interns educated us on this.
Picking up litter from the streets of San Pablo purified a large part of our community, through these events is how we achieve the goals we have for our community.
Outside everyone can make a difference and that’s what we are trying to do, to repair others mistakes. Everyone who participates makes a difference and that’s what we do especially on Earth Day.
Change on a systemic level cannot be achieved by only one person. We worked as a team at San Pablo, as society should, to make a difference with our cumulative efforts.
To truly make a difference and take care of our Earth, which is what Earth Day is about, we can’t slack off, despite our numbers. At San Pablo, every participant worked hard to clean up every piece of litter on the streets.

Each person there was dedicated to the program and was there to help the environment. Working together to make the streets of San Pablo better for all. The smiles and laughter that were seen and heard was proof of the dedication these people had.
Everyone coming together, outside, active, and achieving to make the day better and the place better for everyone. Everyone deserves a pat on the back for their hard work.
Through the streets of San Pablo, youthful faces were seen picking up trash and making their community a cleaner, better environment. Through events like these is how Bay Area youth comes together to build a strong community that cares about their planets future.
